Cooperation meeting with the TWPAA delegation (Munich, 12th September 2016)

epi‘s President, Mr Tony Tangena, hosted a 8-headed delegation of the Taiwanese Patent Attorneys Association (TWPAA) representing about 300 members, amongst them Ms Hsiu-Ru Chien (Chair of the Committee of International Affairs of TWPAA), Mr Ted Su (Vice Chair of the Committee of International Affairs of TWPAA), Ms Yvonne Y.F. Lin (Vice Chair of the Committee of International Affairs of TWPAA), and further TWPAA members. Members of the epi Presidium together with Mr Francis Leyder, the Chairman of the EPPC, held fruitful exchange of views with the TWPAA delegates and discussed intensively about some relevant current topics on the Taiwanese and European systems, such as training and the latest development in the UP/UPC. One of the key issues is, as the epi President puts it, to assure the quality of patents, regardless of their origin: Europe or Taiwan.
The meeting aimed at contributing to the promotion of the epi in Asia, strengthening the cooperation with the TWPAA and enhancing future collaboration with Taiwanese IP experts. Owing to Taiwan’s export-oriented economy, it is important for TW to maintain strong and positive connections worldwide to further enhance patent protection in the world. Hence their effort to meet with the epi.
After the meeting the Chair of the Committee of International Affairs of TWPAA and the epi President concluded it had been informative discussions.
