Decision of the epi Council of 14 November 2017 amending Article 18 of the By-Laws of the Institute

On a proposal from the Reporting Group and having regard to the opinion of the epi By-Laws Committee, the epi Council decided at its C83 meeting held in Warsaw last 14th November 2017 that Article 18 of the By-Laws of the Institute shall be amended as indicated below. The epi By-Laws Committee is working on the German and the French translation of the newly approved provision to include it in the By-Laws of the Institute. Reinforcing ties between the epi and the JPAA

Today epi hosted a delegation of the Japanese Patent Attorneys Association (JPAA) with the aim to discuss current developments in the field of patent law and strengthen the ties between the two organizations, which had already met in 2016.

epi was represented by Mr. Mercer, Ms. Vogelsang-Wenke, Ms. Honkasalo and Mr. Jorristma in the Consultation event on User Driven Early Certainty (UDEC), organised by the EPO in the Hague on 9.2.2018.

EPPC Meeting

January 30, 2018

The European Patent Practice Committee (EPPC) met on 24 and 25 January. It was the first meeting of the Committee after the epi Council elected its members in the Council Meeting C83, held in Warsaw last 18th November, 2017.

Amendment of Rule 51(1) EPC relating to the payment of renewal fees

December 18, 2017

The Administrative Council of the European Patent Organisation held its 154th meeting in Munich on 13 and 14 December 2017. During the meeting, it approved to amend the wording of Rule 51(1) EPC to allow payment of the third year renewal fee up to six months before its due date. This enables all applicants to pay this renewal fee on regular entry into the European phase.
