Institute of Professional Representatives before the European Patent Office

Disciplinary proceedings

How do I file a disciplinary complaint against an epi member?

If you wish to file a complaint against an epi member, i.e., a professional representative before the European Patent Office, regarding a breach of the rules of professional conduct, please file it in writing addressed to the epi Disciplinary Committee (by e-mail to dc@patentepi.org or by mail to Bayerstraße 83, 80335 Munich, Germany). It shall be signed by the complainant or any legal advisor or professional representative acting on their behalf and shall include the name and address of the complainant. The complaint must be written in one of the official languages of the European Patent Office (English, French, German).

There is no special form for the complaint. It would be useful to have a clear description of the facts, preferably with evidence attached. Please also indicate which rule of the Regulation on discipline for professional representatives and/or the epi Code of Conduct has been violated in your view. The Rules of professional conduct are contained in Articles 1 to 3 of the Regulation on discipline for professional representatives. The epi Code of Conduct contains recommendations on conduct by the epi Council.

The relevant regulations can be found here:

If the Disciplinary Committee needs anything further, you will be contacted.
